Sarahlaine Calva, a Girl Who Hopes to Change the Current Female Role in Morden Art
Sarahlaine Calva is a self-taught, freelance artist based in Raleigh, NC who along with sharing her perspective of her colorful world would like to change the current female role in modern art. Her creations are simply based off of personal thoughts and observations from the world around her; creating her own interpretation to share. She utilizes traditional materials such as ink, acrylic, colored pencil and has experience in digital software to create as well. Here are just a few of her works; her favorites. Sit back, get lost, and sink into this unusual world.
Sarahlaine recently helped JumpFromPaper customized two cartoon backpacks named Tribeca and Anomaly.
The white one is Tribeca and the black one is Anomaly.
We had an interview with Sarahlaine! Let’s check this out!!

Could you please tell us more about the concepts of the design? Any details from the backpacks you want people to know?
Sarahlaine: The bursts of color represent the emotions I go through during the creative process of designing these bags. The color palette is one that I truly admire and describes my personality well.

Could you please share with people why you want to become an artist?
Sarahlaine: I have always wanted to create since I was out of the womb and I can’t simply live without creating something. Being an artist is essentially living the dream.

What advice would you give to young artists?
Sarahlaine: You’re going to have your doubts. But rather than letting those doubts consume you alive and prevent you from creating, take advantage of it, challenge it and utilize your self-doubts as encouragement to do better and punch it in the face. You only live once.
