Let's Check out the Interview to Know Her Better

  • Could you please tell us more about the concepts of the design? Any details from the backpacks you want people to know?

Lizzie: I love abstract patterns. My work and the clothes I wear tend to be quite colorful, so I wanted to collaborate with JumpFromPaper. I think fashion & accessories should be bright and fun. There are too many boring clothes in the world. The gold combined with the swirly lines makes me think of outer space. The bag is coated with hardware store spray-paint. It’s the best metallic paint you can get. And it’s cheap! That’s my secret tip.

  • Could you please share with people why you want to become an artist?

Lizzie: Making things is very therapeutic for me, as I’m quite neurotic. My work isn’t necessarily about a particular concept, but the process of creating it is significant. I have always loved drawing, but I started getting art jobs only a few years ago. I was finishing up my Philosophy degree in Edinburgh and using lecture time to finish up freelance work. Painting is very new to me. But it’s wonderful, I get a totally different feeling from it than drawing. In my case, painting is more expressive than precise. I practiced a lot last summer by finding old pieces of furniture on recycling day and made this huge collection of bits of wood to paint on in my apartment.

  • Any advice to young artists?

Lizzie: You should always try and finish your work. Even if you’re half-way through a piece, and you think you hate it, you can try and make something out of it. I think persevering through these little roadblocks is how you learn. Maybe you’ll discover some cool techniques or ideas that you never thought of before. Otherwise, make sure to take breaks. I am continually rushing and messing things up. It’s good to see your work with fresh eyes.

  • We like your style a lot! Would you like to draw something fun or bright for our AW collection?

Lizzie: Of course!
