Claudia’s work is based on her personal experience as a heterosexual woman in modern world dating and her view on female sexuality along with humor and sarcasm. Behind her colorful cartoon-based images, there is always a simple message or a lighthearted joke. The caption is a very important element to the imagery because she believes a piece of good work is not only visually interesting, but it also needs to serve a purpose. In 2013, she started her university final project on “Sexual Objectification of Women” at London College of Communication. 3 years later, she decided to continue the project and started posting her illustration work regularly on Instagram as her self-expression. In the early stage, Instagram removed her illustration work several times because it was a female body part. That was why at the beginning of her work, she was always trying to get passed Instagram’s ban and pushing the boundaries.
Not surprisingly, we found the female body illustrations in her artworks. Both of them are extremely cute. Are you ready to have a creative summer just like Claudia?
Claudia: The left one is “Get Pool-Ready for this Summer!”. And, the right one is “Summer Face”.
Claudia: I reckoned “summer theme” would be perfect for this collaboration because JumpFromPaper to me is always colorful and playful and the project started in late March, I was already excited for summer. Basically, all the summer elements, such as swimming pools, tan lines, and tropical palm trees were in my head during the creative processes. The reason why my work features women’s bodies is that I explore female sexuality through my art and that’s up to 80% of my work is all about. People get offended by realistic women’s bodies easier and media censorship can be very unfair towards women. This is why I painted a face featuring women’s breasts which media can’t really censor them because it’s just a face.
Claudia: I have been painting since I was a child. Art has become something natural to me! Frankly, if I wasn’t an artist, I would have zero ideas of what I could do in my life. I always want to connect with people with my ideas, my stories, and my creativity, and art is the best communication tool for me to connect with people.
Claudia: Be authentic and original! Don’t copy something because it’s popular. Do something you love even you don’t get paid for! But also, don’t sell your art cheap! You don’t need a gallery or an agency to represent you, you can always put your work out there through social media or any online platforms. Make your own luck!
