Harajuku Fashion

Harajuku fashion is a vibrant variety of Japanese subcultures that celebrates self-expression, individuality & personal identity. It takes its name from Tokyo’s Harajuku Station, which also became a hotspot in the 1980s for Japanese teens exploring unique styles & subcultures. From street performances to art celebrations, Harajuku quickly became known for its iconic symbol of Japanese youth culture

The roots of Harajuku fashion trace back to the post-war Allied occupation of Japan. With American soldiers living in the area back at the time, cultural exchange flourished, leaving a lasting mark on local fashion. Western influences from American-style shops inspired Japanese teens to craft their own take, resulting in the bold, colorful, & bright aesthetic that defines Harajuku fashion today

Like what was mentioned before, Harajuku fashion is a variety of Japanese subcultures, meaning that it has a wide diversity of styles & aesthetics. It’s quite impossible to cover all of the styles. But, the main or popular ones are as follows:

1 1

Decora

This style is easily recognizable as people who dress up usually include tons of colorful accessories all together at the same time like hair clips, bracelets, stickers & etc. The clothes worn are usually vibrant, punchy colors that can immediately grab the public’s attention.

Lolita

Lolita is arguably the most popular fashion style of Harajuku Fashion in Japan & it is split into 3 styles, which are Classic, Sweet & Goth.

Classic has an aesthetic that is inspired by the Victorian Era. It has a more mature or muted color palette to emphasize on that traditional look.

As for Sweet, it includes elements that are more child-like with colors of outfits like baby blue, pale pink & etc. Also, lots of lace!

For Goth, it basically mixes lolita with goth aesthetics that are similar to Western goth styles. You’ll see a lot of dark colors with accessories like chokers, cross necklaces, corsets & etc.

Cosplay

Everyone in the world knows about Cosplay as it is so popular that it has transcended throughout the world. Cosplay is very popular in countries outside of Japan like America, Malaysia, Philippines & etc.

Just-in-case for people who might not know, Cosplay refers to “Costume Playing” which refers to dressing up as a character from a manga or anime.

Much like Harajuku fashion, which is known for its bold fashion in general, we believe that JumpFromPaper has a very similar style of bags that matches really well with it.
